Food Empowerment with Lauren Ornelas In-Person

Join us for a conversation with Lauren Ornelas, president of the Food Empowerment Project, a vegan organization founded by a woman of color to address the unfair working conditions of produce workers and the abuse of animals in our food system. Lauren will discuss the power of your food choices to create social change. She will highlight the depletion of natural resources, the unavailability of healthy foods in low-income areas, unfair working conditions for produce workers, the abuse of animals in our food system, and how to buy chocolate that is not produced by child labor.  Learn more at the Food Empowerment Project website: https://foodispower.org/

This spring, the Library is partnering with Los Gatos Plant Based Advocates share a series of programs focused on reducing our  traditional reliance on meat and dairy.  Plant-Based Advocates is a grassroots group taking action in the community by helping restaurants increase their plant-based options, working with local politicians, and sharing plant-based meals with unhoused communities, encouraging schools to offer healthier options for our children.  Look for their programs through the spring, and visit their website : http://www.plantbasedadvocates.com/

The Los Gatos Library recognizes the diversity of our community and is committed to accessibility for all patrons. We strive to make every visitor feel comfortable by ensuring equal access to programs, services, and activities. If you require a reasonable accommodation in order to participate in a library program, please contact library@losgatosca.gov
